I have eaten some super strange things over the last six months - yep it's been half a year already - and here is a little list of highlights. I am proud to have been culinarily adventurous... wee hee how fun it is to say culinarily adventurous.. try cunningly culinarily adventurous... I diverge, here is the list
chapulines - crunchy grasshoppers cooked in lemon, chilli, tomatoe and salt. Good with beer, an alternative to peanuts?
tacos de cesos - brain tacos.. hmm.. yeah they were ok actually
sangre - coagulated blood.. not my favourite
tongue stew - look back through my ramblings for the story of the stew..
nopales - cactus! yummy.. in all different fashions..
nicoatole - jelly made from maize, milk and cinnamon.. with a skin of red sugar on top.. one of my favourites
tejate - this is a traditional drink made with cocoa and it has a froth of cocoa fat on top.. delicioso pero peligroso!
fried bull liver (I can't remember the name in Spanish) - actually I didn't like this much, so I wrapped it up in my napkin and gave it to some street dogs...
And here is a photo homage to icecream... quite a few of these were taken in the deserted Coney Island..
xxx I scream you scream we all scream for ice cream xxx
I was having trouble deciding which is better, ice cream or paintings of ice cream... I think the verdict is in... If I ever get divorced from my Mexican puppet man with guns husband, the next in line is the ice cream with moustache man. love.

great photos! i love those beautiful, fading, hand-painted gems.
i (unwittingly) ate tongue stew in mexicotown... in FREEZING snow, sleet and high winds, entered a local eatery with no english signage or language spoken, pointed out a yummy looking hearty stew, then when I was nearly finished noticed the taste buds on the meat. bleaugh.
